Chelsea moved a step closer to sealing back-to-back Barclays FAWSL titles with a solid, if unremarkable, 2-0 victory over a resilient Tottenham.
The stakes were raised on Saturday afternoon as Aston Villa returned to league action in a somewhat precarious position near the bottom of the table. With their game against Arsenal falling foul of the weather last weekend, Bristol’s first win of the season narrowed the gap as the relegation battle in the Barclays FAWSL heats up.
The FAWSL returned to a sunshine-filled Hive in North London as Tottenham hosted Reading. Both sides were coming into this game on the backs of defeats in the league cup mid-week and both knowing they had a big shot to get points on the board.
This week’s Continental Cup action kicked off with a London derby. Chelsea hosted Tottenham Hotspur in Group B, with both sides having won their opening game of the competition.
Spurs kicked off their Continental Cup campaign on Wednesday against Championship side, London City Lionesses. They secured their first win of the season in a routine victory that saw them put four past the visitors.
