Birmingham City have completed the signing of defender Asato Miyagawa, subject to international clearance and WSL2 approval.
The Japan international arrives at the Blues from Damallsvenskan side Hammary IF where she played for the last season. During her time in Sweden, she amassed 35 appearances and scored four goals.
“I am very happy to be able to join this historic team”, the 27-year-old said. “I believe that winning the championship is definitely ahead, so first I want to focus on the upcoming matches and keep winning.”
Miyagawa began her career at Tokyo Verdy Beleza where she spent eight years and winning the AFC Women’s Club Championship in 2019. She made the move to Europe in 2024.
At international level, she has collected silverware at youth level, lifting the U17 World Cup in 2014 and the U20 World Cup in 2018. She made her Japan debut at the SheBelieves Cup in February 2019 and featured at the 2019 Women’s World Cup and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
